A good read about a good man.. Not worth the cost.. This book has nothing to do with Christmas. Unfortunately this set of books does not provide the spectrum of manuscripts that reflect the wonderful examples that exist to date.
Nor does it provide a history that would provide an understanding of the art, time period , individuals or the history of how and why these particular prints have been selected.. Its multicultural examples are based on research and well integrated into the topical headings of the book. I initially saw this set in a bookshop in Bangkok but was daunted by its size, weight and expense. A tip of the hat to a book well done. Obviously he has visited most of the places he discusses, for his descriptions of them (both then and now) are vivid.
His theme is summed up in a concise sentence that concludes his preface: "I do not beleive that, at the deeper levels, the man who created Tristan und Isolde, Parsifal, and Der Ring des Nibelungen could possibly h
